Oil leak

My o1 ex is leaking oil from the cam plug. Where is the best place to get just that? I don't want a ton of parts that aren't leaking, just the plug.

Re: Oil leak

I had the same issue with my 01 honda civic lx..

I put some hi temp silicone around it and it slowed the leak down. but didn't fix it :-)

supposedly you have to take part of the engine apart to swap that part out. I think it is like a 11 dollar part but I would rather have someone else do it.

i got the dealership to fix it. it set me back about 100..

Re: Oil leak

honda dealer its around $5-10 i think. it you are talking about the plug next to the EGR valve on the passenger side of the engine, it pops off with a screwdriver.

In the PC based tech manual I have it looks like the cam plug is put in after the cam bearing is torqued, i.e. there is no need to take the valve cover or cam off, is that right?

Re: Oil leak

yes, a member here simply pried the old one off and popped the new one in. nothing needs to be removed except the plug. i forgot if you need to use gasket maker or not but i can see if the honda service book says anything. i am thinking no, since there should be a rubber o-ring around the plastic.

Sweet, I am halfway to the nearest Honda dealer when I am at college, so looks like I will be headed to Saint Louis Monday afternoon.

Re: Oil leak

No big deal. Other than it was 16 bucks and some change at the dealership. It was listed, no cut price. The biggest pain in the butt was on an a2 you have to remove the egr to get it out of the way. BY FAR the real pain it the butt is getting the nuts back on the egr studs. Dropped a nut, couldn't find it, then had to take the resonator box off to find it, but it did give room to get the egr on and clean up. It was ok to take the resonator off because I am **** and it gave me access to stuff a rag in the intake and pressure wash the oil off the side of the engine and all over the transmission. Leak fixed, oil cleaned up. Wasn't a fast leak at all, but it made one heck of a mess.
