Trans-axle mystery hose
Trans-axle mystery hose
I recently purchased my first civic and have been putting new parts in her.
I have a 2001 Civic LX with 96,000 miles.
1.7L Manual Transmission
Work I'm doing:
Timing Belt
Tune-up
New struts/springs
Problem:
After I pulled off the intake housing I noticed something odd. I'm hoping someone can tell me what this is? It is located on top of the transmission housing.(passenger side of the flywheel/clutch)

If this is the transmission dipstick...then I'll feel like an idiot.
If it is a vacuum line, where does it go? And how bad is it that it hasn't been connected.
Thanks for the help,
Markus

Re: Trans-axle mystery hose
Our manual trannys don't have dipsticks, so you can rule that one out. It could possibly be the breather tube. Can you remove it? If so and you see a gold spout, that's what it goes to. This is based off of a past experience, so I could be completely wrong about it.
Re: Trans-axle mystery hose
I have an '05 and it has a hose in the same position although it's different. Mine comes up a bit and then has a 90 degree bend, it's not connected to anything.
I think it's just a breather valve, they just changed the design in later 7th gens.

Re: Trans-axle mystery hose
You both are correct. It is a breather tube. I've ordered the elbow that goes on it, although I'm not sure it is entirely necessary. $4 at the dealer.
Thanks for the help!
