“Check Engine” ON and OFF.

Civic 2005 DX. About 8 month ago I got “Check Engine” light ON. Code was P0139 which is O2 sensor #2. But both sensors were pretty new. I decided to not replace the sensor and try something else. Changed oil, fluids, filters. Used some fluids to remove water from the system(in case it was any) and fluids to clean fuel system. Nothing helped. Light is ON about every 2 weeks for about 3-4 days. About 5-6 month ago I changed the sensor and light went OFF for about 4 month or less and then was ON again. I was disconnecting different sensors to make sure I will get different error codes(to make sure sensors work). Now I know that sensors work and the problem is something else. Don’t have any backfire or vacuum leak. Sparkplugs have some dark colors. I guess because of the incorrect mixture. But that could be a result of the Light ON, but how can I know that for sure.
I know that CAT could be one of the problems.
What are the other possible reasons could be?
I am looking for indirect reasons that make O2 sensor #2 to turn light ON beside the sensor is broken. Maybe something in the fuel system.
Thank you

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

you could be using an aftermarket sensor (not denso or ntk) and that can cause issues. not that the sensor is broken, it just wasnt made to work as well with these engines.

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

Have you pulled the code with the new O2 sensor? Is it the same?

Aftermarket O2 sensors are great....if you don't mind a CEL.

OEM is the only way to go with O2 sensors, Honda's are picky.

Yes, I have pulled the code with the new O2 sensor. It is the same.
How can I tell that my honda does not like that sensor, even if sensor is good?

What else could it be?
Thank you everyone

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

The description for the sensor that I bought saying its - OE.

What about BOSCH sensors? Are they considered Aftermarket sensors. I remember I wanted to buy this one http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=569506
Could it make difference or no?

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

Just realized that previous link was only for the picture. Here is a link to this BOCH sensor
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...___#fragment-2

And here is link to DENSO sensor.

BOSH even more expensive in this case. What I should had picked then?

Still, I am looking for more possible issues.

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

i got bosch few yrs ago and they used to be repackaged NTK sensors. now they dont even have the right sensor in the box so i cant recommend that anymore. your safest bet is www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and get the oem honda sensor, whatever it may be. make sure its the correct one because upstream (primary) and downstream (secondary) are completely different.

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

Does anyone know about this brand - AIRTEX / WELLS
I found this part (36532PMMA01) on Honda part site and googled it. I got results for AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5S5669 which is Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 36532PMMA01
Could this be the one? Has anyone used this brand?

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

I know it sucks because OEM O2 sensors are so expensive but they're the only way to go unless you wanna live with the CEL and crap MPG.

Re: “Check Engine” ON and OFF.

yeah with a 2005, you should be paying around $250 for the right sensor. its a wideband, they switched in 2004-05. older civic used the $50 narrowband sensor.
