Catalitic Converter
Catalitic Converter
Is there any way to bypass or eliminate my NOX 3way catalitic converter on my 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid? The check engine light is on and the new part is around $1000.
Thanks,

Re: Catalitic Converter
you can take the cat off and gut the inside mesh so its a plain old hollow pipe, then put it back together and use the spark plug nonfouler trick to space back the oxygen sensor to turn the engine light off. bear in mind this is illegal and in many states can cost a huge fine (more than replacing the converter with a new one). it will also cause the car to pollute more and fail a smog check if they use the exhaust sniffer. it may be a hybrid but it still uses a regular 1.3L engine.

Re: Catalitic Converter
There are a few tricks that can't eliminate the CEL, but like gearbox said, if they analyze the exhaust emissions you'll never pass without a functioning cat. If you want to save money some of the non-oem cats will work well.
