Leaky trunk

lately i have noticed that after washing my car or after a good dumping of rain that when i open up my trunk water will pour out of the baffels that my trunk lid has stampped into in when i open it. Because of this i assume that it is a problem within the trunklid itself and not with the weatherstriping. I removed the portion of the tail lights that are attached through the trunklid and did not seem to find any evidence with the foam gasket behind them. So my next guess is that it is probably somewhere around the crome bar that is right below the the Honda badge.

I was just wondering if anyone else has expirenced this problem and if so i would love any imput you have on the situation.

cheers,

Jay

Re: Leaky trunk

Sorry to hear. My first civic was a 1990 sedan that had a leak in the driver's side corner by the rear brake light. I tried absolutley everything to stop it but I couldn't figure it out.

I replaced the tail light, trunk seal, tried cocking the sh*t out of it and nothing worked. Eventually I ended up getting rust in where the spare was kept. Every three or for months i'd have to rust treat it and it was a huge headache.

Hope you figure it out. I'll keep my eyes peeled for info and pass it on if I find some.

Re: Leaky trunk

do you have a spoiler that mounts to the lid of your trunk? if so, have you checked that it isn't coming in from the mounting holes?

Re: Leaky trunk

nope there is no spoiler on the trunk lid. my guess is that it is actually with the lib itself becasue the water is contained to the baffles stamped in the lid. so my plan is that if i cant find the problem i'll just get a different trunk lid and see if that works haha

Re: Leaky trunk

Okay to sum it up there is many areas where hoda trunks leak water. I live in oregon where it rains all the time and have seen all the leaks Honda has to offer. In the trunk there is two areas where you cant see water leaking in but in order to find out pit someone in the trunk with a flashlight. One common leak is on the side where the bumper inserts to the side of the trunk. In order to see it you have to remove the side carpet. Another is the headlights you might want to seal them up. And another common area is the top sides of the trunk were the door shuts sealed that up and leak is gone.
