Idling issue
Idling issue
Hey guys,
So my car when I go into idling, whether at a stop light, or whatever, or if I throw it into neutral, the rpms go extremely low, around 300 rpm and sometimes it will readjust, and go to about 700-800 rpm. However, sometimes like this morning it will go down that low and then die. What on earth is this? There are no codes spitting out no lights on, nothing. It just does it randomly. I could really use anyones help. It is honestly starting to make me mad...
Oh in the event you need to know, I own a 2001 honda civic LX sedan. Thanks guys!

Re: Idling issue
There are a couple things that it could be. Since there is no check engine light, your throttle body or IACV may be dirty. You could have a vacuum leak or need a tune up because your spark plugs are not firing correctly. If you have the same thing I have it might be your fuel pump/filter. I did all the above and still could not fix it but then my friend suggested fuel pump/filter which makes sense because my car chokes up while shifting at times (automatic). I have not fixed it because I am trying to sell my car but if you do and it works for you let us know.
Re: Idling issue
Alright, so I figured it out. I did a lot of work on that car, took all of the air intake system out so that I could see the throttle body. I look the Idle Air Control Valve off, it was clean inside. Spray cleaned it anyways... Then I tool a look at the little gasket that seals that part to the throttle body and sure enough, it was completely broken. As a matter of fact there was a part that was missing off of it. Ordered a new one from Honda dealer since there was no where else to go, no one stocks it. Paid 2 bucks and got it the next day, put in the gasket and reattached the idle control, and air intake, and boom fixed that little problem. There are still a few little issues. I think that I may end up changing the fuel filter but that's a project for another day!
