2003 civic ex catalytic problems
I had the CEL come on just after my warranty on the cat expired. Came up PO420 at 132000KM. I replaced the O2 sensors which made the car accelerate much more even, but the code still came on solid after that. I then did the catalytic converter with a Bosal, worked good for 2 weeks and the PO 420 came back. I had a mechanic check it and he told me that the catalytic converter(new one) was toast- i've just had it re-replaced under warranty. Anything I can do to prevent the new one from breaking? or are these bosal cats junk? or maybe it was just a lemon? Any ideas would be very welcome, im thinking of selling the thing. I should mention, I had a pressure test on the coolant system and no leaks are present, its not burning oil and it runs fine.
Thanks all

usually non-oem cats are worthless. thats why theyre so cheap compared to the honda one. if the engine light is for the secondary sensor, or bad cat, it wont affect how the car drives. only the primary sensor will.

Go to a junkyard and pull the cat from a wrecked car. Or put a spark plug non-fouler on the secondary sensor to pull it out the exhaust stream and you'll pass any emission tests you might be facing in the near future. Dont sell your car- its just a cat. And no matter what you do- dont spend the 1.000 bucks HONDA wants for a new cat.

Hi All,
Quick follow up- re-replaced the Bosal direct fit cat and it worked for about 1400km again- and again PO420. Would strongly suggest not trying a Bosal Cat- you'd be better off with the defective OEM honda one.
thanks all for the feedback

I was having a issue with error code P0301. I thought it was a cat problem but it came to be an ignition coil, valve gasket and new spark plugs were needed. Cost me $512 approx tax in. If you really need a cat best place for that cheap and OEM is catconauto.c_m (replace _ with o) costs $293 tax and shipping included depending where you are. this price is right now while us dollar is par with our dollar. I have to ship mine back as that was not the problem with my 01 civic LX. If you are in the GTA I can sell u mine brand in the box tommorrow that when I get it. let me know if this helps. tell the guy denny sent you

Re: 2003 civic ex catalytic problems
Hey adamcalgary, I just replaced the cat on my 2001 Civic LX yesterday due to a P0420 code. I bought a Genuine Honda factory new cat for $421 from HondaPartsNow.com They are a Honda dealership in North Hollywood. My local dealer wanted over $600 for the same part. I did not want to mess around with the aftermarket stuff and I need it to pass California smog. I hope this helps.
