so, I am having an issue with the wife's car. '03 EX 2-door 5mt, 80k miles. I think its the outer CV but am just not convinced, just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions or maybe a confirmation.

There is a clicking/rattling sound coming from the front of the car (drivers side I think) under exceleration. If i let off the clutch and very gently give it gas, I can keep it quite until about 5-10 mph. The sound seems to increase with RPM and decrase the same. IT IS NOT THE ENGINE. I can rev the engine up to 6K and it purs, no sounds, no rattles. If I am am at constant speed or push the cluch down, the sound goes away. I havent noticed it louder under turning our straight acceleration, it is just there. I feel no vibrations in the steering wheel or gear shift, and the clutch still operates very smoothly. I also havent noticed any lack of power, but i dont drive the car enough to judge that accuratly.

Does the clicking correspond to the speed of the car? Or does it sound like someone rattling a tin can?

the sound corrisponds to the RPM of the car when it is moving. The sound gets a little quiter as I go through the gears and the RPM drops. I dont hear anything at a stop. Its definatly more of a clicking than a rattle.

And it only makes the sound when the clutch is engaged (pedal up)?

technically yes, but not when car is stopped or at constant speed. only under acceleration.

no, not that I saw. but she drives it hard.

I may pull the boots off and inspect today.
