PLEASE help diagnose car noises
Hey guys, my car is currently making 3 noises i am trying to track down, the
-First being a metal on metal clank sound, it only happens once and occurs when there is significant torque.. It appears to be coming from the left front fender (so probably not an engine mount..) usually in first gear, and then when i release the gas and the car quickly slows down while in first/second (at high RPMs), or when i am driving in 1-3rd at high rpm and i push the clutch in..
-Second sound is a whistling which is heard when i am in too high of a gear for the RPM's (for example driving in 2nd gear up at hill at 1500 rpm.. or if you were to start from a dead stop in 2nd gear)It dissapears once i hit about 2000 rpm
-Third is a ticking sound which is only present at highway speeds. The ticking starts at about 50 mph and then clicks fast the higher the RPMs/speed, its not terribly loud and when i put the clutch in or go into neutral at these speeds, it dissapears..
thanks for any help!!

Re: PLEASE help diagnose car noises
1. Check the heatshield on header for looseness.
2. Sounds like a vacuum leak.
3. Sounds like something broke off in the clutch. If it doesn't affect driveability I wouldn't fix it unless the sound is driving you crazy. My car makes so many little rattles, clunks, clicks, and whines it's unreal but, she drives just fine. Cost of a new clutch is about $500-1000.

Re: PLEASE help diagnose car noises
1. DO check your motor mounts, the front one always goes, mine did and made the sound you describe.
2. if youve got an intake clean your filter, not even kidding, thats all it is, if you dont have an intake, vacuum leak, although you should get a CEL if there is one, but itll only know if you have a vacuum leak if it idles long enough once its warmed, look for a high idle.
3. input shaft bearing, the sounds will get worse, mine are, im planning on a rebuild soon, but its not gonna die just yet, its a fairly common problem. To diagnose it further: Put the car in neutral and listen with the hood open, then have someone push the clutch in, if you hear a grinding (or like marbles in a can sound) stop, then its the ISB. It will start again as soon as you let off the clutch...

Re: PLEASE help diagnose car noises
I have had my 2007 honda civic lx coupe since june of 2009 and I was just told by my cousin and uncle that my lower (tranny mount?) needs to be replaced, which was causing the heavy vibrations, mostly in reverse and desceleration.. does this sound like an issue anyone is familiar with? Im new to all this and im very frustrated. my cousin found one that is 65 dollars and im prayin thats it.
