can i remove my tranny w/o taking off the sub frame?
Re: can i remove my tranny w/o taking off the sub frame?
out da bottom man out da bottom!!! IF i remember correctly you have to lower the left side of the engine and it slides right out (play with mounts)... dont drop it... these things don't like that... It saves you from removing your subframe tho..

I got it high enough with a 3 ton jack... this was on my 92 accord tho so im sure there will be differences... and similarities. lordhelmet knows more so I'd with what he said, try to pull it out the top. I'll check the shop manual later as I'm heading out the door now.

would be killer if i could pull it from the top with the engine lift
but im ready to pull it from the bottom if i have to, this will be my 4th tranny done on the floor...heh
are there any seals i should go for when i have this thing out as well, im changing all the tranny seals, but not sure if i should do the others while im there
thnx

Re: can i remove my tranny w/o taking off the sub frame?
Why fight it? There is very little room, out the top would definately be a pita like you said. I have had the tranny out of the 01 ex in my sig and the frame comes right off, no problem. The biggest problem I had was trying to get the dang ball joint to let go of the lower arm so I could drop the lower arm and such. Otherwise NO big deal. I had it on the floor too. Four jackstands to put it about 20" in the air. Used a 2.5 ton jack and my engine lift. Just gotta tie the engine up, no big deal though.

I tried and failed. I messed around for an hour trying to get the tranny out with the subframe on the car. Taking the subframe off is really easy, it's only held on by 6 bolts.
Re: can i remove my tranny w/o taking off the sub frame?
i took the tranny out from the top, drained the coolant and took off all of the cooling housing, shimmied it out and took it apart yesterday.
need to change the final drive bearings, input shaft bearing, all seals, new clutch.
busted a dowel that holds the tranny in so ill have to get a pair as well. but it was fairly easy, just give yourself lots of time.
