snapped off alternator terminal, 2003 civic
Need help. I snapped off the electrical terminal on the alternator for a 2003 civic. I'm removing parts to replace the timing belt. I was making good progress. I'm happy to say I finally got the crankshaft bolt loosened. What a Job!!
Unfortunately, the easy stuff is turning out to be the hard stuff. The 1/4 inch stud that feeds power back to the battery broke off inside the alternator.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm considering trying an easy-
out but don't know what the connections looks like inside the alternator. Is this a waste of time. For all I know, the stud could actually be a bolt that's installed from inside the alternator.
Do I need to disassemble the alternator and make the repair from inside?
More importantly, has anyone actually done this job?
The cost of a rebuilt alternator is about $150. A new one from the dealer is close to $800 ($550 on-line). That's a lot of money for a $5 stud (bolt?). The dealer doesn't sell the stud.
I started to disassemble the alternator (4 small bolts) but stopped because there is also a press fit connection. I don't want to totally screw up the alternator and then find out the fix could be done externally with an easy-out.
thanks
