Run w/out Thermostat

I have a 2005 EX with D17A2 engine. Is it possible to remove the thermostat and use the stock rubber gasket to seal the housing? The thermostat rim fits in the inner part of the gasket to give it strength. I'm afraid that the gasket might get dislodged cause a major leak.

Re: Run w/out Thermostat

i think he means not use a thermostat, but the hose and stuff will still be connected, not plugged. hes wondering if the gasket by itself will still let all the parts fit together. if you live in hot climate, its prolly fine. the car will just take longer to get up to operating temp since you are circulating all the available coolant from the start. in cold weather, its a bad idea. car will take forever and possibly never warm up, also the thermo cant close if the engine temp is not hot enough, and you will get really bad gas mileage.

In general it's just not a good idea, I'm not sure if it's been done or not though.
