I have a 2003 Civic that has just developed a tapping sound when the engine is cold. It goes away after about a couple minutes. It is r.p.m. sensitive. The car recently turned over 100k. Two different mechanics have checked it out. Both say the noise doesn't last long enough for them to say what is causing it. All diagnostic tests show no problem. Has anyone else ever heard of or experienced this?

usually at 100k you should be getting the valves adjusted. they can tap as they get loose over time.

My car has a sort of tapping noise too, took it to the dealer yesteday for a valve adjustment.. this cleared up alot of the ticking but my manifold also has a crack in it, which is still making a lil' bit of a racket. Check your manifold and get your valves adjusted, that should help.
