Weird noise when starting the car

Crank and run from 9-10 sec sounded ok, but the second grind at about 11-12 sec sounds a lot like a bad starter.....

How soon should I have this fixed? I just started hearing the noise today. Also I've noticed if I start the car after using it for a little bit and start it again while the engines hot, it doesn't make that noise.

Well first, see if my guess is accurate. I hate to be cussed at because someone dropped a wad of loot on a wild guess without actually inspecting it further.
Next, fix it before it leaves you stranded (at the worst time, in the worst place).
How long will it last? I dunno.

I'd say a starter is likely though.
Seems like we are in the sweet spot for the 8th gens right around 100k miles.
(Just my opinion based on the postings here and my personal experience)
But it is highly dependent on your commute, my 2006 was started very often for short trips so mine went at about 90k miles.
If you drive long trips you might not need a starter until 200k miles.
My starter actually started acting up around 9 months before it finally went, but it's all luck.
What happens(usually) are the contacts within the alternator wear out, sometimes when the starter stops it will stop in such a way that the good contacts are still making connection.
All it takes is the bad luck of it stopping in just the right place and you'll get nada.
The longer you run it, the more "bad spots" there are, and the higher your chances of not getting it to start.
Sometime you can smack it with a pole(kinda hard to get to) and get it started that one last time to drive it to the dealership.
Did not work for me though, I had to pay the 50$ towing :/
But as ezone already said, it's not exactly cheap, so it'd be best to explore a little to make sure that is indeed the issue.
