I have a 2004 Civic DX. My problem is while driving down the road and the air conditioner clutch comes on, it pulls the engine down, feels like your on the brakes. When the clutch kicks off, the engine picks back up. I think it does it without the air on also. When the electric cooling fans come on it does the same thing but it doesn't pull the engine down as much.

Any one run into this problem before.

fairly sure that is normal. the AC robs the engine of a lot of power.

No, this just started doing this. A slight pulling down is normal as you say but it feels like your stepping on the brakes. It pulls the engine down at least 500 rpm maybe a little more. I have never noticed it doing like it's doing til a few days ago. Gonna have it put on a computer tomorrow I guess and see what it says.

Well, or your electric system is pulling too much electric power or your engine is loosing power compared to before would be the points for you to be checking in case you don't get any codes in the computer.

The garage didn't have a chip for it this morning, suppose to get one sometime today. Had the alt and compressor checked and the guy said they were ok, no bearing going out. I put new plugs in it yesterday thinking one or more might be getting tired. Maybe they will get the chip and see what it says.

I found out part of the problem....the low pressure relay on the air conditioner was bad........it was causing the compressor to lock up.....I believe the high pressure relay is also bad because it is still doing just a little.
