99civic transmission fluid screen help!!!

I have a 99 civic that is jumping rpms when it's in drive. If you manually shift it the car works fine but in drive it jumps up and down whenever it wants. Checked the speed sensor and also looked for a modulator valve until I found out it didn't have one. The only solution I could come up with is the tranny fluid screen. I have no clue how to replace the screen so I'm looking for help here. Should I do it myself or would it bE better to take it to a transmission shop and let them handle it? And if anyone knows a round about pric that would be a great help to !!!

Re: 99civic transmission fluid screen help!!!

There are two different solenoids on the passenger side front of tranny. One is called the linear solenoid, the other shift solenoid. Fairly easy to change.(check civicforms.com for photos etc) First ask around and try to get a used linear solenoid at a place that sells used Honda parts and replace it. If that doesn't work change the shift solenoid. If you go this route have a good look at the o-ring gasket on the solenoids to make sure their OK. You can buy them separate at dealer. The photo on this link shows the linear solenoid in the pink and the shift solenoid in the green. http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl282f.htm Good luck.
