Before cat converter 02 sensor
Before cat converter 02 sensor
I took my 2000 civic ex coupe to the shop because the check engine light came on...They told me it was the sensor rite before the cat BUT the problem is that they want 900 dollars to fix it. They say that the part alone is 400 and the rest is preatty much labor. They also said when they replace it they have to drive it because of something that has to do with the fuel??? i Honestly have no idea what there talking about. ive changed the cat converter and the o2 sensor on the cat recently. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem? and if so how hard is it to replace myself? Thanks

Go to autozone, and ask for the primary O2 sensor on your 2000 civic ex. They will charge you about 50 bucks. Pop the hood, unscrew your current sensor and unplug it, reversing the steps for the new one. Then just do an idle relearn: warm the car up- drive it around the block a few times. Park it, turn off all the electrics- stereo, lights, everything... dont touch the gas pedal either. let it idle for 10 mins. turn off ignition. restart it and go for a drive to make sure everythings working perfectly. Thats all you need to do from what you described your problem to be.
900 bucks is ridiculous for an O2 sensor. Maybe if you had to replace your header, your cat, both O2 sensors, and maybe two or three ECU's they could charge you 900 for it.

Seriously, just an open ended wrench that fits 19mm or something like that. An adjustable wrench works too. Thats all.

OMG! no way did you quote you that much? you should throw a brick through that fools window. Just unclip the sensor from the harness and use an open ended wrench. Or you can go to autozone and barrow one of their O2 sensor socket.
