need major help!

i need help removing my the back door panel of a 2005 civic hybrid.

the back driver side window wont go up. it went down fine, but now it wont go back up.

i tried looking at the DIY's for other civic models, but they were all for the front driver side.

i already took off the screws behind the door opener lever thing, and started to pop off the cloth that is the forearm rest. like the part that is closest to the back of the door. if anyone can lead me in the right direction, ive looked like almost all night for step by step instructions, but i couldnt find any, that would be greatly appreciated.

or if anyone has any other information that could help me it would be great.

Re: need major help!

If you look on the under side of the door pull handle you will see a rectangle cutout in the plastic near the panel. Use an L shaped stiff device to reach in the opening and release the lower cover latch and peel it from the front where it releases 1st to the back and remove it. Then another screw(s) will be revealed, once screws are out pop the panel from the bottom edge and lift off top lip.

The cloth should stay in the panel.

Let us know what you find my drivers rear is currently inop.

Re: need major help!

hmm, isnt the back door the same as the front? pop off the handle cover (behind the handle that you pull to open the door), take out two screws. then pull out the whole handle trim and disconnect the metal lock rod from the plastic clip by rotating the clip ccw. pop off the armrest front plastic by prying near the fabric where the small hole is below the window switch. there are two screws under that. then just yank all around the outer edges of the door panel to pop the clips. slide the panel up and pull it out, unplug the window switch.

Re: need major help!

ahhh i see now. it was hard to see. i was expecting a larger rectangle. its like an 1/8 inch long an 1/16th wide.

i used a flat head screwdriver and just found where the seams were and pried it off. unscrewed the two screws and started from the front of the door, where the hinge is, because you can kind of get your fingers back there right where the arm is of the door. and worked my way around toward the back and up to the top and once i got it all unpopped or whatever i had to take off the connection from the window switch. which was a little difficult to be honest, lol. then i had to unscrew the switch from the handle and reconnect it so that id be able to use the window controls without having the door panel on. also i had to maneuver the door opener lever out of that hole cause it was easier than just taking it off.

now im just stuck on why i cant get the damned window to go back up.

Re: need major help!

did you try the driver master switch and its own switch? none work? does anything make noise when you roll it up? check to be sure everything is still connected to the window glass and the tracks are in the right spot.

Re: need major help!

I ended up putting voltage to the isolated motor leads directly and it would not budge. It can be a couple of different things that cause this problem. You can watch for slight dimming of the dome light and pretty much tell if it is getting voltage or not. Hopefully you will be able to get yours closed.

Re: need major help!

also open the switch up and manually adjust the plastic tab inside while its connected. be careful not to shock yourself! you may need to clean inside the switch too. this happens to me alot and black soot builds up inside the switch housing and on the metal contacts. alcohol and qtips cleans it right up and it works fine after that. better than buying a new one if thats the problem.

Re: need major help!

open up the actual part that you push or pull? or remove the switch from the wires, and clean both contacts?

also, i tried to see if the switch worked, and it went up like an inch if that.

Re: need major help!

Do you have access to a meter or a 12 volt test light ??

Will the window go back down at all now ?

Did it move at normal speed or slow the short distance it went up ?

Re: need major help!

yeah take the entire switch apart. underneath the plastic cover that you push/pull, there is a black box with a small tab and its normally in the middle. it also goes up and down to trigger the window. try playing with that, and also open the black box carefully by unhooking the tabs. if you break it, just wrap a few layers of thin strip of electrical tape around it. its hard not to break em, but when you open it you can clean out the inside contacts and that usually fixes any connection problem. better than buying a new switch.

i dont see the tabs? but i dont think its the switch because if it was the switch in the back, then wouldnt the one in the master switch work?

Re: need major help!

nope, if one switch is disconnected/broken, the working master switch will not open that window. somehow they are connected.
