VTEC Controller
VTEC Controller
I have a APEXI V-AFC II VTEC Contoller and Airflow Converter for an 01 Civic EX is it worth paying about $300 to have it installed and put on the dyno? also how would I keep the check engine and other lights from turning on doesn't this affect the ecu ?

Yeah, for around 150 you could just buy the wireharness and make it plug and play so you dont have to change any wires up, cut or solder anything. Turning isnt really big on those things. Its more of a monitoring device.
Re: VTEC Controller
300 for install and a tune is really cheap.. you can purchase plug and play harness for pretty cheap and install it yourself then pay for tuning separate.. but 300 for both is cheap, the tune alone should cost around 250-300. but honestly i doubt you will feel anything. maybe a minuscule 10 horsepower which is being very very generous. expect like 3-5. lol. unless your car is "highly modified"

^ use google. It owns.
Vtec controllers just allow you to adjust Vtec kick in points. Thats it. Say you want it to kick in at 2,000 rpms... you can do that instead of having it kick in at the factory set point. Beware of your settings, setting it too low or two high can hurt the engine.

Re: VTEC Controller
triz is right, messing with the factory vtec setting is a very bad idea. the ecu uses a combination of four different variables before it will actually engage the solenoid. at least on newer 01+ civics, engine coolant needs to be at normal temp, oil pressure must be high enough, rpms above 4500, and throttle at 100%. if you program the vtec engagement yourself, even at 4500 rpms, you are bypassing ecu safety measures and can cause serious engine damage. imagine what would happen if vtec kicks in when your engine temp is cold, the rpm is too low, or you dont have enough oil pressure. goodbye motor.
