Suspenion clunk?

Hey guys just wondering if you guys help me pin point a problem I think I am having. Its nothing really serious just more of an anoiance. Since I have had my car (About 1 year now) I have noticed a noise weird noise while im driving. I am fairly certain from speed bumbs that its comming from the passenger side front tire area. The noise the car makes is like a moderate sounding clunking noise whenever I hit a good dip in the road, or if I hit a bump such a speed bump etc. I have been under my car before checked all my tie rod ends and what not are all tight and everything looks ok. Do you guys have any idea what the noise might be?

On another not im not sure if this would be related or not but I have also been getting some loud squeaking that you hear when you hit a good dip in a roud. sounds like its comming from somewhere up front but not sure where. The sound comes and goes. For example when I did a 500km trip all highway driving after I pulled off the highway it was doing it lots. As I did more in town driving it went away again.... So weird.

Anyways let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Re: Suspenion clunk?

Check your lower control arm bushings, those are usually the first things to go on the vic.

Ok, will do. Anything in particular I should look for because I dont have a lot of experience with suspension stuff. Is it something that wouldnt be too hard to DIY? Would it need alignment after?

Re: Suspenion clunk?

It's a bushing on the lower control arm. Look for a tear or break in it. Pretty easy to see especially if you take the wheel off. There is a DIY somewhere on the net here if you search on google I believe. It's not all that difficult but you do have to use a press to get the bushing out/in. Some people recommend to replace the entire control arm for about 80-90 dollars a piece. I suggest you get ES bushings as I've been told anyway. Just take the entire control arm off and get a shop to press the old one out and the new one in. MAKE SURE they press them in the right way as they have to be lined up, and if they don't line it up it will tear much quicker.

Hope this helps.

Re: Suspenion clunk?

Three years ago, before I found a good repair shop, I had Pepboys replace my bushings because of the same clunk sound on turns.. Anyway, they stripped the welded bolt on the sub frame when they reattach the control arm. What a bunch of jerks. I had a Honda dealer fix it by removing the welded bolt with a similar bolt. It's been fine since then.
