Taking out a D17A1 engine. How much do I have to raise the car to take it out?

I am taking out and repairing my D17A1 engine at home. I know I have to take out from below, but I do not know what clearance height I need between the floor and the bottom of the car.

Anyone know how much I need to raise the car's front to be able to take it out?

Thanks!

Seriously? Just rent a cherry picker. Or take it out in pieces.

I have an engine hoist. The manual says to hold it with the hoist and then remove the subframe and then lower to take it out from below. Can I take it out and then put the remanufactured engine from above?

i have removed my engine plenty times and have never ever removed the subframe or removed the engine from the bottom.. its a hassle and it is a waste of time IMHO. i just pry the axles off, remove the plugs from the ECU, unbolt the motor mounts and all the other stuff attached to the motor (power steering etc) and pull it from the top. i can raise my car 22 inches (which is my jacks maximum height) and still have enough clearance to take the engine out in my garage. the top of the hoist barely nicks the lowest point of my garage.

so i say, pull it from the top.

Thanks civicsrcool. It good to know I can do it from the top, it would be a pain ... to take it out from below. I will give it a try it from the top. Its just weird that the standard procedure according to the Honda Manual is from the bottom. Thanks again.
