2002 Honda Civic Si -- CEL Codes P1166 & P1167

I've recently purchased a 2002 Honda Civic Si with approximately 53k miles on it from my neighbor. The check engine light was on. (Neighbor agreed to handle repair, but I'd like to save them some money.) I had Autozone use their OBD II scanner and they advised the codes were P1166 & P1167.

I've read alot of information on those Honda codes from doing a google search. I've pulled fuse six and the CEL came right beck on immediately after restarting. The engine runs smooth though.

Based on those codes it appears the Oxygen Sensor needs replacing. Everything I've read states the code is initiated from the Oxygen Sensor (o2) on the heat shield side of the exhaust. I haven't gotten a chance to look under the car yet, but Autozone lists the Oxygen Sensor as either "Sensor located before catalytic converter" (Denso 234-9004) or "Sensor located after catalytic converter" (Denso 234-4124). I did find the same Denso Oxygen Sensors much cheaper at oxygensensors.com. Do you know which one is the correct one to replace? I want to be sure to order the proper one.

And I've seen several references to staying away from the Bosch ones and to only use Denso ... is Denso really worth the added cost?

Thanks for your help ... my first Civic and love it!!!!

there is 2 o2 sensors
one right at the exaust mantifold and one at the converter
the top one is the upstream and the bottom one is the downstream
i replaced both of mine at a cost of 50$ a peice
if one is bad the other will prob go shortly
so you are most likely better off changing both
it only takes about 15 minutes to change both
i got the bosch o2 and have no problem with them

there is a post cat and pre cat O2 sensor denso is the OEM sensor..both bosh and denso should be around the same price, I went with denso since they were OEM.
To find your pre cat o2 sensor pop the hood and look at your headers there is a little thing with about 4 wires coming off it. That is your pre cat o2 sensor this sensor is a bit pricy.
To find your post cat, or I guess in this case its at ur cat, just look under ur car on ur cat and u should see it in that area looks the same as the pre cat with a different size wire and different connector.

http://oxygensensors.com/catalog.php?&pkey=1386323 and these are the o2 sensors. I dont know which one u need but if ur throwing two codes u probably need them both. When my pre cat o2 sensor went bad I changed both of them. You usually try to change them in pairs if you can. If your strapped for cash just change the one that needs replacing
