Vtech Lags and car stutters...
I have a 2002 ex with an exedy clutch and ACT flywheel. I have been driving on this set up for over two years or so. Recently, I noticed a stutter when I hit the 3600 range. So, i thought it was the synchros slipping, and that I might need to get a new tranny. Eh, then i realized that this was only happening right around 3600-3700 range (vtech). And, i also noticed that after I shift to a higher gear the stutter goes away.
A friend of mine said that his buddy had the same problem and that I needed to get my ecu flashed. I plan on doing that although there is an additional problem. While driving I can hear a clicking noise from the engine bay. He said that it might be the relay trying to click over but i'm not convinced.
I didn't find too much on here regarding this issue. If there is, please someone paste a link so i can see it. IF not, can any of you guys help me out here?
thanks-

well that cant be right because vtec only engages above 4500 rpms when you floor the gas pedal. if this problem just happened, maybe your clutch or flywheel is getting worn out. or its something totally unrelated. if there is a problem with vtec, the engine light would have come on already.

This might sound funny, but try changing your oil. The same thing happened to me and it turned out that my oil was low because I had been busy on the road. Your VTEC sensor uses oil reading to measure when to engage apparently. So I had to pay $200 to get my car an oil change because of the diagnosis fee and the oil change.
Worth a try.

Well- i'm officially an idiot.
Because of my lack of maintenance in changing the oil, i didn't realize that i had a small leak. And, because of that, when they changed my oil today, they told me that around a quart of oil drained and that it looked thick.
After the oil change, the car didn't stutter or lag and all of the warning lights went out.
Lesson learned: change oil on time and respond to the warning lights in the dash.
Thanks for the tip on getting it fixed.
