Question Civic Power Steering question !

Hi All,
I own a civic 2001, I only use to change engine oil every 5000Km, Oil filter every 10000 KM, Spark plugs every 20000, and front brake when I made the 50000KM, then on 100,000 I changed the main engine cam belt.

I never had any troubles since year 2001.

Suddenly today, after the car made 115,000 KM (7 years of use) I heared a loud noise when try to turn left or right even when I try to turn the steering wheel 1 cm to right or left, I hear a very loud noise from engine.

I opened the engine room, I saw the the top cap of power steering oil tank have hot bubbles out of the cap, as the oil wants to go out when turning the steering wheel right or left.

I think the pump is working perfect because the steering wheel is responding perfect as usual use when driving or when parking. The belt of the power steering pump is ok by visual test.

Can any one guess what is this noise ? and why the oil get out from the cap of the power steering tank when turning the steering wheel left or right ?
Regards,
Reda

Re: Civic Power Steering question !

wow something is wrong, usually the fluid will boil, but shouldnt come out of the reservoir. it almost sounds like something happened to the rack and pinion and its making that noise. you may want to raise the car up and check underneath to see what happened down there where the cv shafts are. what kind of noise is it making, clunking? ticking? scraping?

Re: Civic Power Steering question !

Hi,
Thank you for your kind answer and hints. your answer was usefull to me to re-think about the problem. Can you imagine that the cause of the squeezing noise I was hearing when turning the steering wheel right or left was lack in the oil !!!!???
This was so simple that I did not think to add oil. The bubles was very hi in the oil tank so I thought that the oil is OK.

So the cause of the noise was the air bubles when going through the pump.

The pump was making this noise screeming to me : I need oil !!

Thank you very much again, and sorry for my english it is not my language.

I am electronics engineer, so I think different way about any fault.

Regards,
Reda

Make sure to keep an eye on the fluid level and check for leaks afterwards, if the fluid was low it may have a leak somewhere.
