Aftermarket bulbs fryed wiring.

Dear readers, this may be a simple answer to some but im not very familier with electrical so here goes, i had a set of aftermarket bulbs in my headlights and after removing one that burned out i noticed that the plastic part that presses onto the bulbs was completely melted, i have had a few different bulbs in the car before and never had this problem, however after looking over the bulbs i did notice that they were a set of 12v 100/90w bulbs unlike the stock 12v 60/55w. is my answer as simple as the fact that the wattage was just to high????

Also how much for a new cable that i melted, still works for now but i don't wanna leave it unfixed.

And for future reference is it a good rule of thumb to just buy bulbs that are the same wattage to avoid the problem in the future?????

Thanks for the help.

I have seen larger gauge harnesses for this very purpose. I have used them on my truck (upgraded from 45 watt to 55 watt). I haven't looked for any for a civic before. You can buy a direct wiring harnesses (which will deliver even more power to your headlights) for generally around $100 or so. You can buy everything you need and make one yourself for $40-$50.

Re: Aftermarket bulbs fryed wiring.

if they still work, then its just the connector and you can buy a hi temp version from auto parts store or autolumination.com

but its better to just make or buy a whole new harness in case the stock wires were damaged. they are too small anyway to run even the stock bulbs.
