Timing Belt maintenance interval
Timing Belt maintenance interval
Guys,
I have a 01 civic coupe EX at 154K definitely due for a timing belt change! The mechanic told me that he would replace the water pump as well as other dry belts. One more thing was the cam shaft gasket? All for $440 here in Southern Cal. Is this a fair price for such and what else if need be do I need taken care of at 154K? Thanks!

Didn't I already answer this question in your other thread?
Very good price, I'd do it. It's possible you'll need a crank seal as well, but thats a bit more unlikely. If he's replacing the water pump be sure he flushes the coolant with DISTILLED H2O and Honda Genuine Coolant. Be sure he replaces the tensioner, it is about a $70 part but with 154K on the thing it is ready to die and it is just a PITA to open the whole works up again to do it later. Many mechanics skimp on buying the tensioner to keep the price down, be sure you get the tensioner set included in the job.
Standard maintenance as it appears in the owners manual for severe conditions applies in SoCal. Anything at any mileage up to 160K that has not been done should be done. Pay special attention to ball joints and other suspension gear as 160K is probably when things start to go assuming you are at original equipment - your shocks are most likely toast if they are original.
Not sure what else - just so many things in the manual that depend on if you've had them done or not.

Replaced OEM suspension with TEIN coilovers. Thanks, Red. I'll have to look into the tensioner you speak here of.
