Rubbery Shift

Guys,

I have a 2001 Civic Coupe LX - manual tranny with about 82K miles... it's been a trouble free all this time, but lately gear shift feels bit rubbery (not the clutch pedal, but the stick shift itself). I checked the oil (next to brakes) and it's still within safe range - it doesn't grind or anything (yet), but it's taking some extra force to shift.

Do you guys think it's already time for a new clutch job???

Any tips on the OEM/aftermarket clutch service cost - I wouldn't mind going aftermarket if it's cost effective/performs better... Thanks for the tips!

Re: Rubbery Shift

Check your transmission oil. If the shifts feel "rubbery" then that has nothing to do with the clutch fluid reservoir (which you checked). Your going to have to get under the car because there is no dipstick on 5 spds.

A Haynes manual is really handy to have for a refrence when your doing a manual tranny fluid change fyi.

Re: Rubbery Shift

You could also try lubing around under the shifter itself where the metal pivots (and the cables too while you're in there). There's some DIY instructions on how to remove the shifter **** and the whole center piece to get at it.

Re: Rubbery Shift

I changed the tranny oil and that seemed to fix it - so far - I'll try lubing if it continues...

Re: Rubbery Shift

Glad to hear it worked. Always try the simple (aka cheaper) stuff before you run off to spend the big bucks.
