Weird problem

Hi everyone. I own a 2001 civic coupe si (ex in the US) and have a strange problem. In August I had my clutch replaced at my Honda dealer which iobviously involved removing the tranny and other various drive items. Now whenever it rains and I'm doing between 50 and 60 I have this really loud noise coming from the passenger front side of the car. I suspect that this problem has something to do with the re-instalation of my tranny. The noise sounds like when you go over rumble strips. Then when I come to a stop you can hear a rattling noise which sounds like the drive shaft spining backwards. After a while this disappears and all is normal. My Honda dealer has inspected the front end and road tested the car. They can't re-create the problem. Personally, I think that water is getting into the the CV joint. Has anyone on here had this problem? If water is getting into the CV joint or the drive shaft is starting to wear, what are the warning signs of this?

Re: Weird problem

I dont know why they would have removed the transmission...a lot of places just unbolt it and move it out of the way. If the dealership did the job, keep going back to them and complaining, or go to an individually owned shop to have a second opinion, or a 3rd. If you can get proof that it was something that they did, written proof, you then have a basis for something. If they still refuse to help, call Honda (the main headquarters) and complain. Honda usually takes care of its customers well, so everything will be OK. GL

Re: Weird problem

It's not the thermal shock noise of the exhaust underneath the car? Buzzes up through the center console? This happens to some cars when you drive through a puddle in the rain. Annoyingly common.

I'd have them pull it apart, as they may have done a simple CV boot inspection and said it was good. Better yet, have an mp3 player with a microphone in the car so you can record it when it happens.

Re: Weird problem

I've felt a vibration a couple of times coming up through shifter handle a couple of times. One time it was a quick grinding noise like I missed a gear. I notice though when this problem is happening, my engine rev's a lot harder when I'm doing about 60.
