Has anyone ever had this happen?

OK, as some of you know, I had a hole in my radiator, wife was driving, blew all the coolant out, car wouldn't start, my wife towed it home while I "drove" (I now call this the Drag of Shame), I replaced the head gasket, it still ran like crap, I thought I was off a tooth on the timing, I dislocated my knee while doing the fix, and I think that catches everything up.

Well, I triple-checked the timing today (ripped most everything off (PS, Alt., engine mounts, etc..) to get to it and made sure that everything was good to go. Put it all back together it still ran like crap.

Oh ****, I thought.

I was left with a couple things. A leakdown test to check if I blew a ring and rigging up a timing light to make double-damn sure the engine was timed. Well, I was leaning over the engine thinking about what could happen if the car overheated.

So I regapped the plugs. Checked every sensor, every vacuum line, R&R'd the TB, checked the TPS with a digi MM (other issue), did the idle relearning procedure twice. Still runs like ****.

Did I mention the radiator JB Weld patch job works like a charm?

Anyway, I've been rocking those "Spoon" coilpacks that came on my PnP head and I figured, "Let me just put my old ones back on to make double-damn sure I've ruled out everything." I ran upstairs and dug them out of the office, and swapped them out.

Well holy crap. The car runs great now! I took it for a test drive, beat it to redline through 3rd a couple times and no problems. That's great!

But what the crap? Overheating killed a coil pack? Has anyone ever had this happen or heard of it happening? I mean, thank God I had those extra coilpacks, I would have never thought to swap them out if I hadn't had the extra set.

Anyway, I look forward to anybody's response.

No, they were OEM, but for some reason one of them went skitzy after my baby blew her radiator, overheated, and died. The only reason I put them on was because they were blue (the stickers). In fact my stockers are made in Japan and the stickered ones are made in the US. Either way they're garbage now.

Anybody ever have a pack die after overheating?
