Hi again guys,

More adventures with my 2000 Si today. I've had this problem occur twice so far - when I turn the key to start the engine, I hear a loud click and then everything electronic stops working. I popped the hood, disconnected the battery, and then reconnected it, and then my car starts as it should.

From what I've read, these symptoms partially fit that of a faulty ignition switch but not entirely. Car never stalls or dies after starting etc. The above description is a complete account of what happens. I've never had the issue happen twice in a row, and the only two occurrences so far happened about a week apart.

Any ideas?

This indicates you had a poor connection that failed, went 'open circuit' under the high amp load of the starter.

This indicates the poor connection was within the battery cable connections, as your disturbing them improved the poor contact situation.

Battery posts should be clean and shiny, cable ends should be clean and shiny. All metal contact points should be clean and shiny for good electricity flow.
If you have replacement cable ends, cable corrosion could be a culprit that needs cleaned too.
Wire brush and elbow grease.
