Shift cable problem?

About a week ago I noticed that when I moved the shifter on my 2000 EX from park, it kind of got stuck before Reverse (so the car was not in gear.) I played with it a little and finally got it to D4 and all was well. However every time I parked the car and let it sit for a while, this problem would return. I've been told it sounds like a shift cable problem. Is this probable? Does this sort of thing happen to 2000 EXs? Is it a costly fix? I'm about to take it in for its 60K service so should I just have them do it all in one? (As an aside, how critical is that 60K service at 60K, or can I push it to 62K?)

Thanks! Sorry for the long first post!
