new transmission

I have an HX tranmission (5 speed, with 85K on it) now but the bearings are out of it and its getting worse. So i decided i'm just going to buy a new transmission and put it in. I found two different transmissions and wanted your guys opinions/input on them

1. 2004 Base model transmission, 5 speed, 46k. I can get it for 316 shipped

2. 2003 Base model transmission, 5 speed, 38k. I can get it for 350 shipped.

Is my best bet going with a base transmission or an EX? I would like a little more acceleration then what I get with the HX tranny. Is their anything I should ask the junkyard before buying the transmission? any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

Re: new transmission

Both the LX and EX trannys have lower gear ratios then the HX MT so either one will be a bit quicker (The EX is a bit quicker then the LX also). If your in socal I can make you a good deal on a LX tranny I have spare

Re: new transmission

I was hoping you where closer to my area. Shipping is gonna be expensive. You are probably better off getting one of those other used trannys. The one I have has 118k miles on it but I just replaced the input shaft bearing since it was starting to go. Then I cleaned and spec'd everything out using the honda service manual The gears and synchros show almost no wear. Ive rebuilt a few honda trannys including my GF's auto so its done right.

Re: new transmission

Replace your clutch...
If it was me I would just replace the bad bearing(s), usually its the Input shaft bearing that goes bad in our civics. I would say If you can do the work you may only have the IPS bearing bad and thats only about $25 so ya... If a shop is gonna do it then get the newer trans since a shop will prolly charge you 300-400 anyway to replace just one bearing.

Re: new transmission

if you do have a shop do it then make sure you tell them you want your old broken tranny back... Im sure you could sell it on here to get some $$ back.
