Car dies while in motion
Car dies while in motion
I have wierd problem that is generally infrequent, but seems to be increasing in frequency of late. My car is currently with Honda for a diagnosis but it has been 2 days and they can not work it out because they are unable to replicate the problem.
I'm driving at normal speeds and all of a sudden the engine cuts out as if I stalled the car. If I immediately try to start the car, the engine turns over and sometimes fires up but them immediately dies. Generally if I try this a few times and can't get it going, I turn off my car, take out my key and wait a few minutes. I am usually then able to start the car and away I go. The problem may not occur again for weeks.
It has happened 4-5 times over the last two months or so, but the last two days it cut out on a few times. I have drop it at honda but they are at a loss.
I don't know if the last two days being quite hot has anything to do with it. My temperature gauge seems is fine.
Personally I'm thinking it is something electrical. Alternator is fine, Battery is fine. Could it be immobiliser? Key? Failing sensor?
It's not throwing any ecu codes either.
Any ideas on things to get honda to check. They are at a loss at the moment too.

Crack senor was my line of thinking too.
It dies immediately when I am driving.
When I try to start immediately after it dies, then it sometimes fires up and sort splutters and dies. If a wait a few minutes it is fine and starts fine.

hmmmm ... strange ..
Sometimes its the most craziest thing u can imagine ... Did u check ur Terminals ??? any signs of excessive corrosion ? ... Stock batter ? did u check the battery fluid ???
If everythings fine and it still does it ... and IF YOUR STILL UNDER WARRANTY !!! Get ready for an 06 CIVIC SON :-p Lemon Law protects you in this case ;-)

Had the exact same thing
Not sure whether you have an automatic or a manual, but i have a manual and had the exact same thing happen to me a couple of years ago.
It got to a point where the car would not run at all. It would just die right away. The solution seemed to be an old program loaded in the car computer. I bought my 2001 civic in november 2000. It was probably one of the first one out of the factory. It seems it still had some old program, don't ask me. They flashed it, meaning loaded the newest one they had at a dealer and all was fine since then.

Re: Car dies while in motion
i had the same problem too, dealership could not find anything wrong and they ended up just putting a new engine, which was not the smartest idea but i had given up and had no choices.
