Trouble Starting in Cold Weather

Hi All,

I have a 2004 Civic EX Coupe. I live in Los Angeles, so usually the temperature is pretty moderate (warm). However, at night the temperature drops to 40-50 F. When I try to start my car when it is around this temperature, it doesnt start, I have to try like 2 or 3 times before it will actually turn over...it seems like a spark is not happening or something. Can anyone help? I took the car to the dealership last year (around winter) and they wouldnt do anything because they could not reproduce the problem.

Thank you.

im not sure if this is related to your specific issue. but my 03 auto ex would struggle to turn on during a cold start. after upgrading the ground wires to give it better eletrical current, it never hesitates to start anytime of the day. i did this mainly for stereo needs but i noticed this on the side after a year or so.

some 4gauge wire and terminals will only end up around $15 and 45min of your time.

rice4lyfe will become famous soon enough
if it happens again, try turning your radio/electrical components off before starting and see if it works. Check your battery voltage at night to see if you have enough, its much more important that you see if you have enough CCA (cold cranking amps)

^^ or thats also a good idea too

i have the same problem in cold weather but my battery is near frozen when it happens i think. i posted a question about which battery to upgrade to but didn't get any responses. upgrading my ground wires is definately on my to-do list this spring.

What exactly are you all doing when your saying you upgrade the wires? I have this problem too---are you doing the "big 3" like the car audio folks do or something else? Thanks,

Dave

upgrading the ground wires is replacing the stock electrical grounds with larger wires and sanding away a small portion of paint for a better electrical ground. there is a DIY on here somewhere but I can't find it through the search function.
