I have a 2001 honda civic ex and i have revo shifter and just recently any gear that im in. You can move it up a little and down, like theres play in it. anyone know wut the reason is? Also everytime im at a stop moving striaght forward my car in the front makes a clicking sound or wutever. and it is more noticeable and does it more often when i turn left or right, anyone have any ideas wut reasons these two problems could be. Thanks!

something is worn in the shifter, or improperly installed. bushings, etc. as far as the click, maybe a cv joint?? how bad/often is the click??

Well the shifter seems like nothings worn out. I looked at it recently and the movement seems like its extra play in the main cables thats running through the fire wall of the car. as far as the noise i dont think its cv joint, do they go bad that fast? or could it be more of a suspension thing. it happens about 50% of the time when slowly turning or backing up. Any ideas?

does it click over and over, or just a once or twice? does it click faster if you go faster?? most suspension noises are a thud, or something like that. could also be something as simple as a rock in the tread of your tire, or something inside your wheel cover, if have steelies.

I have a 2001 Ex, and my tranny does the same thing. I'm gonna look into this weekend i'll let you know if i find a fix. and i get that same clicking noise. its not from the suspension on mine, happens in foward, reverse, left, right, straight.

I hear the noise one time when backing up or going forward. When i go turn the wheel moving or still left or right it happens once or twice. Its not really like a clicking sound most of the time, more of a thud sound like you can barely feel it through your feet. I did replace two motor mounts recently one in the front and the other on the drivers side. I tightened them real good, maybe they got a little lose? any other ideas? / The shifter is fine just loose in the cable i guess. Hopefully someone can reply back soon. Thanks again, ill check back later.

Re: 01 civic shifter & noise ?

dont know about the play in the shifter. but the clicking sound is cv joint or could be the strut. If the shock is bad it makes a clicking sound when u r in reverse or turn. had the same thing on my civic at 70K. replaced it and its fixed no more clicking (i figured its the shock coz, i shook the car up and down to see if i can replicate it when standing still and i could hear the strut squealing)

This sounds a lot like what my '02 EX is doing. At first I thought I had gravel caught between the wheel and hubcap since I was only hearing the sound at relatively low speed while cornering.

Long story short... a little messing around has shown that the clicking sound only happens when two things are happening at the same time:
1) turning to the right or on a slope that causes the right side of the car to be higher than the left side and
2) the shifter is in second gear (it does NOT matter if the clutch is in or out).

I'm assuming the most likely problem is shifter linkage that is out of spec. (If the problem was suspension or CV related the sound would not be cured by taking the car out of second gear.)

If you figured out what your '01 is doing I would love to hear what you found.
