Remote lock & not registering open door
Remote lock & not registering open door
Hey all,
I've got two very annoying--and possibly related--issues and I would really appreciate any feedback. I have a 2003 Honda Civic EX coupe with a factory installed alarm. The problems:
1) The car does not recognize that the driver's door is open. Thus, when I open the door after remote entry, the alarm will not fully disable unless I start the car or open the passenger door. Also, the overhead light will not turn on when the driver's door is opened.
2) The driver's door lock will not lock remotely. The alarm sets and the passenger door lock activates when I set the alarm, but the driver door remains unlocked. It will lock only if I push it manually (from inside), or use the key to lock it (from the outside).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Besides being highly irritating, these issues are compromising the security of my vehicle. I'd rather not go spend money I don't have to.
Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me.

1) I would look at the oval shaped, black rubber covered door switch (on the drivers side) It would explain everything with #1 symptoms. They can be removed easily and swapped with the one from passenger side as a quick and easy test.
2) Drivers door actuator assembly is my 1st thought on #2 symptoms.

Yep, CraigW...you're definitely right...
...on #1; there is a noticible difference between the two switches. I can feel that the driver's door switch spring load is gone--heck, I can't even feel the switch there at all. You're saying I can actually remove the entire rubber cover to get at the switch? I don't wanna rip/mess it up. And is the fix something a reasonably smart guy but total car moron (yep...me) can easily do?
As for #2, this moron thinks that that sounds complicated. Anything reasonibly uncomplicated I can do to fix that, or shoul I leave it to the professionals?
Thanks so much for your response, I really appreciate it.
