Angry Strange squeak + rattle is killing me!

Got a 2001 EX coupe with 95,000 miles on it. It has run really good for me the last 6 years. I've had all the usual squeaks and rattles that I have been able to diagnose and fix, but this one is really killing me.

A few months ago, I started to hear this squeaking and rattling sound that seems to be coming from underneath the car, directly beneath my feet almost. Was able to look underneath the car but found nothing loose or hanging. I even took off my left front wheel to see if something was loose there.

Strange thing about this sound is that it ONLY happens when I reach 50mph and above. Even when I'm cruising in neutral that squeaking sound is there, but ONLY at 50mph and over... a constant squeaking and rattling. When I am below 50mph, or completely stopped, that sound is not there. Doesn't matter what my RPMs are... the sound only comes when I am 50mph or over.

Another strange thing is that going over bumps in the road does not seem to create this sound (unless I'm going at least 50mph).

The squeaking and rattling sounds very much like that of a squeaky alternator belt or drive belt, and I am starting to think that this is the problem. But why would a squeaky belt sound like it's coming from underneath the car below the driver? And why would it only happen when I cruise at 50mph and above?

Any clues or ideas would be greatly appreciated

(Have not yet changed any of my belts, btw. I know it's expensive to change the timing belt, but how about the other 2 belts? How hard and expensive is it to change the 2 other non-timing belts on our cars?)

there was a TSB about wind noise...the solution was to plug some holes in the frame w/ some rubber plugs...

the dealer never installed the plugs when i got my car..the plugs are still sitting in the glove box...i dont hear any whistling sounds though...

Can it be your shocks or your shock assembly...it may rattle at 50 MPH because it is "resonating" at that speed.

Hmm, never considered this possibility. Thanks for bringing it up

It sounds nothing like wind or whistling noise, so I don't think this is the problem. Thanks, though.

Possible ... but why would it only make sounds at 50mph? Wouldn't that make sounds regardless of speed?

And also, the sound seems to be coming from directly underneath the lever to open the trunk (right below driver's side door sill). The cat is more towards middle, isn't it?

Yes the Cat. is in the middle. Really the only thing under the trunk lever is the fuel and brake lines. It is for sure coming from underneath the car and not from the interior?
I have found a body creak behind the b-pillar trim near the seatbelt once.
other than that sorry.
