Minor grinding between gears
I have a 2001 lx coupe with a 5 speed and high mileage. I am starting to notice that shifting isn't smooth anymore and sometimes the tranny pops out of second gear. Overall it just feels like **** compared to 3 months ago. It is orginal clutch and shifter assembly. Is this the beginning of the end for my tranny or could it be that my clutch is starting to show its age? Any help would be great
oh btw. i have changed the transmission fluid and I don't drive the car that hard...much

its your transmission, all those signs point to tranny issues. Same thing happened to me. If i were you i'd go out and gte a used tranny vs. getting it rebuilt, because i went the route of getting the rebuild and basically got raped in the butt hole.

You can try a tube of Moly grease in it first, before you rebuild it. My car shifted like crap since new. One tube of moly and a few hundred miles later it shifts like butter. And continues to do so. I had originally let Honda change the gear oil, and it actually made it worse. I don't really care what people say about only using Honda this or Honda that. In the case of the 7th gen transmissions, I dis-agree.

Here's my suggestion for the 7gen manual transmission: Dump the Honda MTF
and use Redline MTL instead. My 05LX was notchy from 6 miles on the OD until I got so sick of it & dumped the MTF at 3500 miles for Redline MTL.
Within 50 miles all my complaints about the transmission were solved!
Honda says to change the 1.8 qts of MTF what? every 60K miles in normal service? This stuff is documented to be beat at 20K miles! I wonder how many of these transmission problems would be avoided with a better quality oil changed at a reasonable interval. As a follow up I changed the Redline at 20K miles and it looked good: no metal wear particles or junk in the fluid. Shifting is smooth & notch free even when it's cold. I only have 26K on this car so I'll follow up at 100K & let you know how it holds up....
I also use Redline in an 88 Accord for many trouble free years & miles.
I would not put grease in any transmission!

You can use lubro moly gear lube, or redline MTF. Nothing wrong with redline at all.
The moly grease doesn't harm anything in the transmission, btw. There is just too little to even thicken the oil. It's just the moly you want.
Doesn't really matter. Both work fine, but all gearboxes are different. One may work better than the other.

my previous civic done that and it turned out to be the synchronizers in the tranny. mine done it going into fifth gear and would always pop out of that gear. had to get a tranny from a salvage yard cause it wouldve cost about $1000 to fix it
ya, with the gear popping out, that is not a fluid issue, it is a synchro issue. this could have been prevented with a good tranny fluid, maybe. but, 7thegn trannys suck, no arguments.
