accessory socket help?

hey guys i know this will sound incredibly stupid but i dont understand it at all. i recently went on a trip upstate and a friend of mine brought his ipod along for the ride. the power adapter fit perfectly into the accessory socket going in. now for some really weird reason its not budging no matter how hard i try to get it out. it seems like its just completely stuck in the power socket. has this happened to anyone before/how on earth do i get it out?

Pull that panel off, and pry down the tabs that apply pressure to the wall, it should slide out.

wrap the tip of a flathead screwdriver in tape.. cram it behind the pannel and yank like hell..

or.. if you have one or two empty accessory slots open just pop the caps off (with a flathead screwdriver).. shove yer finger in the holes and yank like hell..

theres 4 clips holding the whole thing in place.. heres a pic

This may help also. The plastic is easy to scratch.

The same thing happened with my navigation power adapter...it was just plain stuck. I had to remove the center console in order to get to the back of the lighter. If you have a 2004-2005 civic, you cannot simply rip off the lighter/console part as shown in the above pic, you have to remove the console. After removing the console, I had to use a flat-head to free the adapter...it seems that the civic lighter socket just plain sucks...this is the second time this happened...first time was with a portable tire inflator. That time I pulled so hard the adapter broke.
