Water Pump replacement?

I want to save on labor cost. Is it difficult to replace the water pump on my 01 civic if I buy the do it yourself book at autozone? I should probably replace the thermostat as well while I am down there correct? And will I risk affecting anything else negativly while i am replacing the water pump? Thanks.

well its basically like doing the timing belt. everything comes off, and the engine needs to be timed properly. so yes, you could blow your motor doing it wrong. thermostat you could do, just because the coolant will be drained already. its nowhere near the water pump. i would also put a new crank pulley on when you do the belt. but this is all stuff you only have to do every 100000 miles
