Almost $500 in repair for replacing power steering pump

I took my car in to get it checked for some steering related noise (grinding, some resistance).

it turns out that my ps pump was leaking and it needed to be replaced...

my car is at 60k.

anyone have pointers on how to prevent this in the future or was this just some bad luck?

there isnt much you can do when it comes to something like that leaking. the pump has seals and seals fail. just hope that it doesnt leak again.

I took my 05 Coupe to Honda this summer due to a power steering leak. Turned out it was on the rack and they had to replace it.

Not sure how much it cost them to do it (warranty). And they had my front end aligned as well.

might be that the wrong fluid was used in your PS system. with hondas you must use a special type of fluid.
