Engine won't run smooth - advice needed
I'm having a problem with my 2002 Civic EX sedan. It won't run smoothly sounds like it misses once, I hear a clicking under the dash and the check engine light flashes on and off. If I try to rev it up some, same thing and then the tach will drop to zero with the engine still running.
Now for a little background:
I replaced the timing belt, water pump, drive belts, and plugs a couple weeks ago. Everything was fine till the next day on the way home doing about 75 on the interstate with the A/C and cruise on it about died - as in no power. I coasted to the side, turned off the ign. and back on and it cranked fine. No more problem. I stopped by the local mega parts store and had em hook up their scanner - it gave some kinda code low voltage idle circuit. I kept driving and a couple days later same thing same situation. The only way I could get it to duplicate is if I had both the A/C and cruise on. This time the scanner said code P1361 (cam position sensor) at another mega parts store. I just replaced this sensor but no change. I also noticed the plugs are fouled - as in rich.
Is there any way to test these sensors?
Does anyone have any ideas?
Sorry for the long story but its the basic facts. And...
Thanks!

yikes this is confusing. i was gonna say the timing could be off, but it doesnt seem like it if the car drives. are you sure you replaced the right sensor, alot of them look alike and are all located close together. i would try cleaning your throttle body and the IAC (idle air valve) on the side of it with carb cleaner. let everything dry, reinstall, and do the idle learn. this involves resetting the ecu by disconnecting the battery or pulling FI ECU fuse, then warming car to temp and letting it idle for 10 mins with no accessories on and without pressing gas. fouled plugs sounds like an 02 sensor problem.

what you need to do first is find out exactly what codes are there. I have heard so many stories of people having auto stores scan the codes on there car and had it scanned at several stores and each time was given a different code. what I would do is go back and have a few shops give you all the codes that are present. each place should give you the same codes.
once you have the appropriate codes, we can start helping you diagnosis them. I am several other members have a service manaul with all the diagnostics for the DTC's. it will check everything associated with the code. will check for short circuits, open circuits, no voltage, continuity with all the wires untill it pinpoints the problem. now its possible you replaced the sensor and the original one was fine.

since this might turn out to be a serious problem, i would just get one of the ebay scanners for $30. you just plug it and it reads all the codes off. its accurate too already mine paid for itself.
Gearbox, I'll try letting it idle after d/cing the battery overnight but I'm not sure it would idle smoothly. Where did you get an ODB II scanner for $30?
Streetglower, I agree finding out the proper codes is probably the key to figuring out the problem. It's either buy a scanner or pay the local dealer - which I've never been crazy about - big $$$ to find and fix the problem.
Thanks for everyone's help!
