Driver's Mirror not work but Passenger's Is

Well the title pretty much explains it. I was putting my new m3 mirrors on and got the passenger mirror working pefrect. But before that I tried the drivers mirror just to make sure it worked. So anyways then i moved on to the driver mirror and now it wont work at all. The strange thing is that I tried hooking up the stock mirror and it still wont move, but the passenger will work. Can anybody help me out. Basically drivers mirror wont work but the passengers will and i dont think its the mirror itself.

either faulty switch, motor or a blown fuse.

Hey I tried all of those and from wut i said none of those solutions would work. I also tried them. I checked the switch and it seemed to be fine all the wires were connected and the passenger side works. The fuse should be fine if the passenger side works but i checked it and it was fine, the motor mite be gone but why would the stock mirror not work it was working fine when i took it off and i tried hooking it up to the electrical and it wouldnt work. Does anybody have any other ideas.

well the 4th idea is its not hooked up properly. there is only so much it can be. looking at the diagram for the mirrors, you have a main fuse which is good since the passenger side works so eliminate that.

Next power from the fuse goes to the main mirror switch. and you choose between left and right mirror.

Now just because the wires look good and everything is connected doesnt mean the switch internally is good. there are contacts in that switch that when activated allow power from one point to another. if there is corrosion, or garbage or a broken contact, power wont get to the motor when the switch is activated.

Now there also needs to be power getting to that switch. you know you do because the passenger mirror works. SO you can skip ahead.

Next you could check the ground for the switch but again if the passenger mirror works, the ground is good.

Now that you verified power and ground to the switch is good, you need to find out if the switch is doing its job.

Now do you have a digital mulitmeter? if you do I will give you some steps on how to test the switch and the mirror motor/actuator.

Now electrical components fail all the time. You would be suprised how many cars I have seen come into my old job with crap working and leave with crap not working that worked when it came in. **** goes bad. you just have to test things to figure out the problem. but like I said, its either the switch, motor or its not hooked up right. or short/ open somewhere in the wiring. there is only so much it can be.

cannonfolder is an unknown quantity at this point
disconnect your clip going to the mirror, locate the power wire, now set your multimeter to DC voltage. Next put one end to your wire, then the other to ground(any part of the chasis).Keep them in place as you press the mirror button, you should get a reading if the wires or ok. If you don't get a reading and your fuse is good there may be a loose wire or pinched wire from when you installed your mirror. It could also be a loose wire in the switch that selects the driver and passenger side mirror.

The voltage's polarity will be different depending on what movement function you select up/down/left/right.

I would look for voltage between blue/blk and one of the other 2 wires (the polarity could be either way depending as mentioned) You may have to hook up the meter and try all movement positions of the mirror switch.

I have a page of wiring info, It is from the Canada model with heated mirrors but the wire colors you mentioned for the drivers mirror match, If you want the page PM with E-mail address and I can get it to you, May help with troubleshooting.

look i grounded the black probe on the multimeter to the front fender. I touched the red probe to the blue blk and each of the other two (two different times) and tried all positions and no response i tried every combination and still no response does this mean that it is definantly the electrical in the car? also please send the page to tampabay26jamis33@hotmail.com

You will only have voltage when using the switch, Hook the leads between blue/blk and one of the other leads (not chassis ground) turn on ignition and try all of the up/down/left/right positions and look for voltage if none try the blue/blk and the other lead.

I sent the pages to your E-Mail there is also some troubleshooting info, Just remember these are for Canada heated models, but the mirror section should be similar.

hang on im kind of confused. So i put the red lead on the multimeter to the blue/blk on the powermirror, and the black lead on the multimeter to one of the other leads on the powermirror?

The polarity of the voltage to the motors can be changed + or - that is how you can get the mirrors to move both ways (up/down left/right)

Did you recieve the info I sent you ???
