Thats the code my 00 civic si recently through. Do you guys know what this could be or how i can fix it? It started at the track the car went into limp mode only rev to 6500 then i reseted the code. It came on 5 days later and then it came on yesterday when vtec hit. The vtec feels like its working and it hits hard.

Don't have my manual here right now... I can post diagnostic details tomorrow, but basically you may have a short or open with your VTEC oil pressure switch, alternatively it could be same kind of thing with the vtec solenoid. It may just be a wiring issue. The way the VTEC oil pressure switch works is that it is a normally closed switch. The ECM sends a voltage to the switch and expects the voltage to go through the switch to ground. If the ECM reads a voltage on that circuit when the VTEC system should not be operating, it will turn on the "check engine" light and set a code. This code will be a P1259 on a vehicle with OBD-II. So if it isn't reading the voltage going to the ground, then it may think the vtec is activating when it shouldn't be. That's why it sputters around those RPM's. Also, to set the light the event has to occur multiple times, so if it is an intermittent failure (say there is a wire that moves and sometimes makes contact, and sometimes doesn't), then it wouldn't necessarily set the engine light.

you cant just say ok now that i have that code, this one part is the problem. Its a general code, that tells you theres a problem, and if your able to shut it off and its fine for a few days, that means its intermittant. Is it getting worse or more frequent? Do a good visual check of all the components. IF you find nothing, you gotta dig deeper. Start going through the vtec system. I Know that when my SI used to do that, i cleaned the vtec solenoid out real good and it went away, there was stuff in the oil that clogged the screen. Vtec wont engage if theres a problem, its a failsafe to keep the motor together.
Good luck, but seriously get in there and fix it, dont wait till it gets worse.
