I hate the trans dipstick on this car When I drain it I think it takes 3 quarts to get to the full line on the dipstick. At least that is the best I can tell with the way the fluid sticks on it. How many does everyone else use when doing a change-out.

BTW... I put the Honda ATF in this time instead of Dexron so I am curious to see how it differs in shifts. $34.00 for 6 quarts = Honda is making a fortune off this stuff!

Talked to the Service Dept. again they say they don't get Civics in with trans problems.... only Accords

Oh.... 38,000 miles so I have more than a few that had smoked ones by this mileage

I though it was 3 quarts for drain and fill.

What I hate is how all the crud builds up on the flat surface around the tranny dipstick opening, I try to keep that cleaned off for fear a chunk of it will get into the tranny when checking the level.

ya its like 2.9 but you need to just check the level when the car is warmed up and running.

i do it every 10k. it maybe changes 1/3 of the fluid cause most is trapped in torque converter and cooler. i've heard many things. Some say that changing some of the fluid causes buildup to be reseased and clog the trans filter, others say if you dont change then same will happen so who knows. flushing isn't supposed to be good either.
