Nasty sound and violent feel... is this the axle?

ok my first guess would be the axel in this situation but I want to know if there are any other ideas (I hope so because majestic honda has axels listed as 400$ and that ish isnt cheap for a replacement)

Drive the car on the highway; it is not rpm or gear dependant. The sound it makes is the exact same sound I had with my 240 when I stuffed huge brakes in and the caliper was thumping on the 4 raised edges on the inner shell in a stamped steel wheel. Its a rumbling repetitive thud that gets louder with speed and is not really noticable at low speeds.

When letting off the throttle and decel-ing the thud gets louder and more violent. You can feel the thud in the body of the car (floor, panels, etc) as well as see the steering wheel shimmy and shake. I also think I noticed the other night that it appears to get worse when changing lanes at speed momentarily.

when looking in the wheel wells I think the tie rods look fine, and its noted that the boot has torn on the ball joints securing the knuckle to the lca. Could this be ball joints causing this?

Is there any way to test the axle besides check for rips in the boot?

Anyone have any ideas?

Jack it up and put the car in neutral. Rotate the wheel and you should hear something. Look for slop in the half-shaft or tore boots. If that doesn't show something check your ball joints by rocking the wheel left right and up down by hand. I wouldn't be driving it until found!!

actually it ended up being ANOTHER bent wheel lol. What luck. I had the summer tires put on and it still had the shake/didnt seem to change. Just put the car on jackstands and did 40mph watching the wheels. Noticed a big wobble, rotated to the other side and it was fine. Very strange I had a bent rear summer wheel (which was then put on the front from rotation) and had a bent front snow tire wheel. what luck lol. Looks like I wont be needing any axles after all.
