Power Window- Parts need to fix

I have a 2-door 97 Civic and the windows on both the driver and passenger side will not close. Both windows will move up and down with the power window switch, but about and inch from the top, the window starts jumping/thudding/jack-hammering. Basically, each window is always open by at least an inch.

I brought it to a window specialist who said I need an new regulator and motor, which he would order from the dealer. (Note: he didn't actually remove the door panel because he said he knew he would get the parts from dealer). I called a bunch of dealers who said repairs for both doors would run me $700-$900.

I want to order the regulator and motor from the internet and bring it to the first mechanic I spoke to, but I want to make sure I order all the parts necessary. What other parts should I order?

Any advice or thoughts on this issue???

I've been searching these forums for the same answer, my window seems to have stripped out some gears.. Talking to a few friends, they said there was some type of zip tie material that could be changed. (searching around I found this to be called Power Window Control Tape) .. So now I'm just searching around to find out if my 98 civic uses this tape or what.

my passenger front window in my 2001 sedan ex just quit working. it is stuck up, and wont move up or down with either the master switch or the passenger switch. i usually look at this website to get an idea what the parts cost, then i look locally for the parts.
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...T+DOOR+WINDOWS

The funny thing about that webpage is that the motor is not listed alone. i wonder if it comes with the regulator?

Update

After some researching, I finally got this issue resolved. I called back the window guy who originally looked at the window and asked if he would fix the window if I brought in the parts. He agreed. I went online (U.S. Auto Parts) and bought the regulator and motor and had it shipped to me. Then, I brought in the car this morning with the new parts. The mechanic went to work and now the windows work.

When I bought the parts I decided to just buy the regulator and the motor together rather than gambling on just the regulator or motor. THe price was good enough so I was ok with that. Buying separately would have been more expensive.

Cost:
Regulator and motor for driver and passenger door: $196
Labor: $75
Total: $271 (for both doors)

I guess the gears had worn down and the voltage sensors in both motors were no longer working (disclaimer: I could be wrong because I didn't do the work).

Hope this helps people out there because my windows were driving me crazy.

Good job! busted electric windows really dampen the party. I will be buying the motor & regulator for my 2001 from www.RoushHonda.com, and its about $57.00 + tax. I will install myself. I printed the instructions from www.alldata.com which i get free from my local public library. This tells me where are the bolts are and how to do the disassembly and install.

Keep on Truckin...
