Automatic Transmission..
Ok, my 2001 civic tranny just blew with 80400 on it. Took it to a nearby honda dealership and talked to American Honda. The bastards won't help me fix it. Now these are my options: i have to pay 4500 for parts and labor for a refrub tranny by honda, get it rebuilt by a transmission shop for around 3000 bucks, or put in a new tranny myself.
My question is can i put in an older transmission let say from a 2000 civic?
Ahh what should i do? My poor baby is dead!

the thing that scares me is that how reliable are the manual trannys? i dont want to buy a used tranny and have it blow out on me. feelings the same with the auto trannys.
should i just get it rebuilt? i got quoted 2700 for parts and labor from a different shop.

its not worth what they're charging to rebuild your auto trans, nor is it worth it to do a manual transmission swap (just buy yourself a new car if thats the case).
just get a used transmission. try to get a newer year because Honda has more or less fixed some of the bugs that the previous years had. besides, the 7thgen tranny (manual or auto) is crap, its not worth the money to rebuild.

ALL the parts to rebuild an Auto cost less than a couple hundred. The rest is PURE profit. I used to rebuild my own, and all the parts cost about $250 for a FULL rebuild. Yeah, it's a sweet racket the shops have.
I have a manual trans on my 02 civic and it has given me hell!!!!
Ive had to check it at least 5 or 6 times and when i installed a used one it started with the same problem!!! Then one of the places that i went to said that these 7th gen hondas have weak transmissions!!!! I'm starting to believe them cuz i still have that problem
