Brakes locked up???

Hi, my girlfriend just bought a 2004 civic lx. she was driving it home today, (the day she got it) and she said it was hard to accelerate. When she stopped at a light and let go of the brake, it stayed in place, she had to give it a lot of gas to make the car move. There was a smell coming from the tires. It appears to me that the calipers are together and squeezing on the rotors. Also, the lug nuts got really hot when i was taking them off. What can be the problem. please help, thank you

It is possible that a caliper has seized. The piston on the caliper is stuck and cannot retract. Replace the caliper as a pair to avoid uneven braking and possible loss of control while braking.

So you think I need to replace both calipers? is there any way to unseize the caliper?

Yes. You can rebuild it. Howver, if you haven't done this before, its best to buy a rebuilt or new set.
