if you have a faulty o2 sensor, your check engine light will be on.

Now I dont think you have a faulty 02 sensor. I get about 30 MPG with mostly all highway miles. ANd I also get about 330 to a tank. You arent going to get 40 MPG, maybe once in a good while, but its hard.

Now in general, yes a faulty 02 sensor can cause a decrease in mileage. If the sensor is reading too lean, the ecu will think you are getting too much air and will increase fuel. But again, a faulty one will usually throw a check engine light.

won't fouled or 'old' spark plugs cause a severe decrease in mpg?
